Harare – Vice president Constantino Chiwenga, on Thursday morning officially opened the innagural Regional Construction Summit in Victoria Falls.
Hosted by Zimbabwe Builders Construction Association (ZBCA), the summit has attracted delegates from across the region, amongst them are representatives from South Africa and Zambia construction associations members.
Runnimg under the theme Leveraging Investment in Infrastructure as a Catalyst for Economic Growth, the summit will run until Saturday the 30th of November.
In his address , Chiwenga applauded ZBCA for hosting the summit at a time when SADC is pushing for infrastructure development.
“Let us build our own as we grow SADC and leave a legacy.
“We still need better innovations and improve the living standards of the millions of people in the region.
“This summit comes at a time when we are pushing for SADC industrialization, and i want to applaud you for coming together and map how best you can fit into the vision for the development of our region.
“As contractors, you should get in and help to push all these agendas,” said Chiwenga.
One of the key areas that the summit is set to tackle is how the industry can take advantage of public private partnerships in its growth.
Commenting in the sidelines of the summit , ZCBA president Dr Tinashe Manzungu
“We are saying in this infrastructure development move we are looking at as Southern Africa , it is our mandate to influence the road map.
“However, we have an elephant in the room which is capital, and it is hindering us from implementing our projects.
“Therefore, tripple Ps then comes into play , and that person with investment should easily come to the party.
“That is why we have also engaged Zimbabwe Investement Development Agency so that even foreign investors can find it easy to partner with contractors,” said Manzungu.
As part of its effort to help builders and contractors in the country , ZBCA signed a Memorundum of Understanding with Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency (ZIDA) during the summit.
Besides focusing on the tripple Ps Memorundum of Understanding with Zimbabwe Investment Development Agency (ZIDA) during the ongoing summit.
