Winky D is back! Gafa returns to Castle Lager Braai Fest stage

By Marshall Bwanya

HARARE — Winky D is officially back on the Castle Lager Braai Day Festival bill, with the Gafa set to return to Glamis Arena as the beer giant prepares to bring Zimbabwe’s music and braai lovers together on October 17.

Castle Lager confirmed the ZimDancehall heavyweight as one of the headline performers in a statement issued on Wednesday, ending any uncertainty over whether the popular musician would feature at this year’s edition.

Winky D will share the stage with fellow established acts Ex Q and Enzo Ishall, while Jnr Spragga, Atenda Chinx and DJ Liz are also among the performers announced.

More than 10 local artists and DJs are expected to take part in what Castle Lager described as a celebration of “music, braai culture and shared experiences.”

The announcement places Winky D back at one of Zimbabwe’s biggest lifestyle and entertainment gatherings, where his performances have previously proved a major attraction for fans.

Castle Lager said the inclusion of established performers alongside emerging talent reflects its “continued commitment to supporting and celebrating Zimbabwean music talent.”

Music will not be the only attraction at Glamis Arena.

A new “Castle Braai O’Clock” activation will run from 3pm to 4pm, giving revellers a chance to compete in an ultimate braai master contest alongside other competitions.

Castle Lager merchandise and additional prizes will also be up for grabs during the afternoon activation.

The build-up to the festival has already begun, with nationwide trade activations planned at popular braai venues where consumers can win tickets, chilled Castle Lager and other prizes.

Festival organisers are promising a full day built around the familiar combination of music, braai and beer, with the brand describing the event as a “distinctive celebration of music, braai culture and shared enjoyment.”

Ticket prices could also make the event an attractive proposition for fans looking to catch the star-studded line-up.

Early-bird tickets are available for US$10, although Castle Lager says the allocation is limited before the standard price rises to US$15.

Each ticket includes entry to the festival, a braai pack and one litre of Castle Lager Draught.

Glamis Arena will host the festival on Saturday, October 17, with Castle Lager inviting consumers to turn up for what promises to be a day of live performances, competitions, braai and cold beer.

Winky D fans, however, already know the biggest draw.

The Gafa is back on the Braai Day stage.
