Harare – Police have launched a thorough investigation into an armed robbery that occurred Monday morning at the Mukuru Money Transfer agency located at Makomva Shopping Centre in Glen View.
The robbery, which took place around 10am, saw a gang of suspects armed with pistols raiding the Mukuru booth, housed inside a pharmacy, and escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The gang, reportedly traveling in a black Toyota Mark X, held workers hostage before looting the money.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that investigations into the incident have commenced, with specialized teams deployed to the scene.
“We have stepped up our efforts in investigating this case,” Commissioner Nyathi told NewsHours.
“A team of specialized units is on the ground collecting evidence and pursuing leads.”
Eyewitness accounts suggest the robbers fired shots in the air as they fled the scene, prompting a brief chase by some members of the public.
Commissioner Nyathi commended the public for their alertness but urged citizens to prioritize their safety when faced with armed criminals.
“As law enforcement, we are committed to ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice,” he added.
The police have not yet disclosed the amount of money stolen, and further details are expected as investigations progress.
Commissioner Nyathi urged anyone with information about the robbery to come forward and assist the police.
