Harare – MDC Alliance opposition leader Douglas Mwonzora, is facing financial woes as his law firm, Mwonzora and Associates, recently had property seized over unpaid rent.
The debt, amounting to US$3,750, accumulated between July and September this year.
Simon Denhere, the property owner, took legal action by issuing a summons on September 19, demanding the overdue payment.
He then applied for a court order under Section 34 of the Magistrates Court Act, allowing him to seize Mwonzora’s property without prior notice.
Items seized from the Belvedere office at 44 Eastcourt Road included furniture, computers, printers, and a generator.
Mwonzora risks being evicted from the premises unless he pays an additional US$1,250 in damages to recover the seized property.
In a counter move, Mwonzora has filed an urgent court application to challenge the seizure, arguing that the court order was unnecessary.
Mwonzora claims the removal of office equipment and sensitive client files was unjustified and could harm his legal practice.
The case is now awaiting a court hearing.
