Chegutu – Retired Chief Air Marshal Elson Moyo, a former Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, narrowly escaped death in a single-vehicle accident on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 3:00 PM along the Chegutu-Pickstone Mine road, approximately 10 kilometers from Chegutu town.

According to a police report, Moyo was driving a silver Toyota Hilux double cab (registration number AES 3454) along a dusty road from his farm towards Chegutu.

As he approached the 10-kilometer peg, he lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road, struck a tree, and came to rest on its wheels.

Miraculously, Moyo sustained no visible injuries but complained of pain in his right hip and shoulder.

“The sole party (Moyo) did not sustain visible injuries but was complaining of a painful right hip and shoulder.

“He was taken to Chegutu District Hospital by a well-wisher, where he was air-lifted to Harare Hospital by Air Ambulance (helicopter).

“His condition is stable and next of kin was advised,” read parts of the police report.

Following the incident a well wisher came to Moyo’s rescue and took him to Chegutu District Hospital, from where he was airlifted to Harare Hospital by helicopter.

Moyo’s condition is reported to be stable.

The accident caused significant damage to the vehicle, including a dislodged front right wheel, a damaged right headlamp, and a damaged front fender.

The vehicle was subsequently towed to Concession Hill farm in Chegutu.

Police are investigating the accident under case number ZRP Chegutu Traffic RRB 5841121.
