Bulawayo – A brazen armed robbery took place in Bulawayo on Thursday, targeting a cash-in-transit vehicle near the Ecobank branch at the corner of 9th Avenue and Fife Street.
In a daring act, masked assailants intercepted a cash-in-transit vehicle, which was under the protection of Safeguard Security.
The robbers, believed to be five individuals, seized an undisclosed amount of cash, estimated to be over US$4 million, from five cash boxes.
Witnesses described the robbery as a meticulously planned operation.
The perpetrators, armed with firearms, overpowered the security personnel guarding the vehicle before swiftly loading the stolen money into their getaway vehicle and escaping the scene.
The audacious attack has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of Bulawayo’s residents and businesses.
Attempts to reach the Bulawayo Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Abednigo Ncube, for a comment were unsuccessful as he was reportedly out of town.
Similarly, the Acting Police Spokesperson for Bulawayo, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, had not issued a formal statement regarding the incident at the time of this report.
