HARARE — NetOne, one of the country’s leading telecommunications companies, has dismissed false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that two of its senior executives are “on the run.”
The company described the claims as inaccurate and inconsistent with its governance standards.
NetOne, in a press statement issued on Tuesday, urged the public and key stakeholders to disregard the allegations, which named its chief technical officer,
Christopher Muchechemera, and chief financial officer, Nyasha Nyambuya.
“The NetOne Board and Management would like to advise the public and our key stakeholders to disregard the alleged claims that two NetOne senior executives are on the run,” the company said.
NetOne said the reports were inconsistent with the “bona fide and highly reputable standing of the two executives,” adding that both remain actively engaged in their official duties.
“These reports are inaccurate as they are inconsistent with the bona fide and highly reputable standing of these two senior executives at NetOne.
“Both Mr Muchechemera and Mrs Nyambuya have been in the office and are executing their duties,” the statement said.
The company also urged journalists to use formal communication channels when verifying information relating to NetOne and its officials, underscoring the importance of accuracy and responsible reporting.
The clarification comes as NetOne intensifies its engagement with the media as part of broader efforts to place digital connectivity and data access at the centre of national discussions on access to information, freedom of expression and development.
Earlier this month, the company engaged the country’s leading digital publishers, content creators, podcasters and bloggers in discussions focused on the role of digital platforms in public discourse and national development.
NetOne said it will next month extend the engagements to traditional mainstream media, with dates yet to be announced.
At the same time, the telecommunications firm continues to roll out customer-focused innovations aimed at expanding access to affordable and reliable connectivity.
Among its recent initiatives is the launch of a Tourist SIM card, available free of charge at major ports of entry, including airports, allowing visitors to access connectivity upon arrival in Zimbabwe.
The Tourist SIM remains active for 90 days and offers flexible data bundles designed for short-term visitors, aligning with the country’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” policy.
NetOne has also adjusted its off-peak data hours to run from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, extending the window for customers to access faster and more affordable internet during overnight hours.
The initiatives form part of a wider strategy anchored in governance, reform and technology-led growth.
Through partnerships such as a recent memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, NetOne is also expanding digital and financial inclusion while creating income-generating opportunities for young people across all ten provinces.
NetOne said its leadership remains committed to accountability, transparency and integrity, adding that continued engagement with stakeholders and ongoing refinement of services are central to its role in supporting Zimbabwe’s digital transformation.
