Harare – A 20-member Zimbabwean delegation is preparing to engage in critical discussions at the inaugural Africa Youth Congress 2025, which will take place from January 16-17 in Kampala, Uganda.
The event, organized by the Ugandan government in collaboration with the African Kin Education Resource Centre, aims to modernize African cultures while promoting Pan-Africanism, drawing over 1,500 delegates from 54 African nations.
Held under the patronage of Ugandan leader Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Congress will take place at the Speke Resort Munyonyo, with the theme “Africanism: Modernize Along Culture.”
Hopewell Tinashe Chako, leader of the Zimbabwean delegation, expressed enthusiasm for the event, which will address both historical and contemporary challenges facing Africa, particularly resistance to coloniality and cultural imperialism.
“We are excited to contribute to discussions on how African youth can preserve and modernize indigenous cultures, while combating cultural hegemony,” Chako said.
“This Congress aligns perfectly with our commitment to promoting Zimbabwe’s cultural values within the framework of Pan-Africanism.”
With over 1,500 delegates expected, the event will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and breakaway sessions, offering youth a platform to explore sustainable development, youth leadership, and the revitalization of African heritage.
The Zimbabwean delegation is eager to foster collaboration with other African nations and bring back valuable insights to support Zimbabwe’s development.
“We look forward to sharing the knowledge gained and ensuring Pan-Africanism remains at the heart of Zimbabwe’s growth,” Chako concluded.
