BULAWAYO — The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has confirmed the arrest of Bulawayo deputy mayor Edwin Ndlovu, Ward 28 councillor Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu and former Ward 22 councillor Rodney Jele over alleged extortion linked to a 50-year lease for a hotel development.
ZACC said the three allegedly demanded US$52,000 from a local businessman in August 2026 in exchange for allowing him to retain a lease agreement signed in March 2023.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly told the businessman that an unnamed rival was offering them US$52,000 to have the lease cancelled.
They allegedly then advised him to match the offer if he wanted to keep the lease.
The businessman reported the matter to ZACC, which subsequently set a trap that led to the arrest of the three suspects.
The suspects have been charged with extortion.
Edwin Ndlovu, Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu and Rodney Jele are set to appear at the Tredgold Magistrates Court in Bulawayo today, Monday, August 24, 2026.
