War Veteran and former deputy minister Tshinga Dube dies at 83

Bulawayo – Revered independence war veteran and former Makokoba MP, retired colonel Tshinga Judge Dube, has passed away at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo.

He was 83.

Dube on Thursday, succumbed to kidney failure after a two-week stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

His son, Vusa Dube, confirmed that his father had been battling a long illness before his passing.

“He passed on at 7.34PM following kidney failure.

“Of course, he has been unwell for the past 10 years, but his death came as a shock to us as a family,” Vusa said.

A prominent member of the ZANU-PF politburo, Dube served as the Deputy Minister of Defense from 2015 to 2017.

He was well-known for his outspoken views on political and economic issues in Zimbabwe.


Before entering politics, Dube fought in the liberation war of the 1970s and joined the Zimbabwe National Army after independence in 1980.

He retired with the rank of colonel and subsequently led the state-owned Zimbabwe Defence Industries for 22 years.


Dube also served on several parastatal boards, including the National Railways of Zimbabwe.

Given his distinguished military career and significant contributions to Zimbabwe’s political landscape, it is highly likely that he will be declared a national hero.
