New opposition party demands Mnangagwa’s resignation, issues one-month ultimatum

By Staff Reporter

Harare – Newly formed opposition party, Freedom Fighters for Change (FFC), has issued a bold ultimatum calling for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to resign within one month.

The party accuses Mnangagwa of presiding over Zimbabwe’s economic collapse, state-sponsored corruption, and social decay.

FFC Secretary General Edmore Marange, made the announcement during a recent press conference in Harare.

Marange accused Mnangagwa’s administration of illegitimacy and blamed Zanu PF, the ruling party for the nation’s economic turmoil.

“In light of his failures, Mnangagwa has brought ruin to the nation, and we are giving him until February 2 to resign,” Marange declared, calling for the incumbent to step down.

Mnangagwa, declared the winner of Zimbabwe’s 2023 presidential election, has faced ongoing criticism over alleged electoral irregularities.

Opposition parties and observers reported voter intimidation, a critical shortage of ballot papers in opposition strongholds, and other issues that cast doubt on the legitimacy of the election.

The FFC claims that these irregularities are emblematic of Zanu PF’s grip on power, which has resulted in worsening economic conditions for ordinary citizens.

Zimbabwe continues to face severe economic challenges, with most citizens unemployed and those in the informal sector bearing the brunt of the nation’s hardships.

Despite these struggles, the government introduced a series of new taxes targeting the informal sector in the 2025 national budget, a move widely criticized for exacerbating the plight of already vulnerable communities.

Marange painted a grim picture of the nation under Zanu PF rule, citing collapsed infrastructure, dysfunctional hospitals, dilapidated schools, and widespread poverty as evidence of the administration’s failures.

“Our resources are being looted, our people are being abducted, tortured, and killed.

“Zanu PF has no idea where the country is going or where it has come from.

“This cannot continue,” he said.

Marange also criticized long-standing opposition parties, particularly the MDC and its offshoot, the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), for failing to dislodge Zanu PF from power.

“It’s been 24 years since MDC’s formation. What have we achieved? Things are getting worse. The same people who failed Tsvangirai are now leading CCC. Expect nothing but more disappointment from them,” Marange said.

Marange urged citizens to back the new political outfit.

He described the FFC as a party offering “a shared vision and shared solution” to Zimbabwe’s economic woes.
