Mutasa – A 23-year-old man from Chief Mutasa’s area has been arrested for allegedly raping his 1-year, 10-month-old daughter.
The suspect, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, was caught by the toddler’s mother while dressing up after the incident.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the alleged rape occurred on December 17, 2024, while the child’s mother was fetching water from a nearby borehole.
“The accused, who is the biological father of the complainant, allegedly committed the heinous act on the 17th of December 2024 while the child’s mother was away fetching water from a nearby borehole,” said the NPA in a statement.
“The state is alleging that the accused entered the house and proceeded to where the infant was sleeping and removed her diaper before raping her.
“The infant’s mother returned from the borehole and encountered the accused person by the door, pulling up his trousers.
“She went to where the complainant was lying down, crying, and discovered that her diaper had been removed,” further said the NPA.
The mother also noticed bleeding from the infant’s vagina and semen below the navel.
The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested and brought to court.
He has been denied bail and is set to stand trial on January 3, 2025.
