Mliswa to withdraw ZIFA Presidential bid if Peter Ndlovu enters race

By Tafadzwa Chigandiwa

Harare – Temba Mliswa, the former Zimbabwe senior national team fitness trainer and sports enthusiast, has announced that he will not contest the ZIFA presidential election if Warriors legend Peter Ndlovu throws his hat into the ring.

Mliswa had previously expressed interest in leading ZIFA, citing his desire to bring transparency and end alleged corruption within the organization.

The former Dynamos chairperson, Mliswa, recently met privately with Ndlovu to discuss Zimbabwean football’s future.

Following the meeting, Mliswa stated that if Ndlovu announces his intention to run for president of the ZIFA, he will back him.

“In honour of his stature in local football, if Peter announces his intentions to stand for the ZIFA Presidency, then I won’t contest him.

“I would rather work, from another role, supporting his vision. It was great to talk to him, sharing ideas and hearing what he thinks,” said Mliswa.

The former Sheffield United striker Ndlovu is Zimbabwe’s most capped player with 100 caps and leading top scorer with 38 goals.

He is also the first African to play in the rebranded English top flight league.

Ndlovu, affectionately known as Nsukuzonke, during his playing days, has garnered substantial public support to lead ZIFA, with many football enthusiasts advocating for his appointment as the new president on social media.

Despite this overwhelming backing, Ndlovu has chosen to remain silent on the issue.

The ZIFA elections are scheduled for January 18, 2025.
