CHINHOYI — Businessman and Zanu PF benefactor Shadreck Mashayamombe has donated more than 10,000 copies of The Herald to delegates attending the ruling party’s 23rd National People’s Conference, extending his support for party activities.
The newspapers were delivered in Chinhoyi on Saturday to keep delegates informed about conference proceedings they might miss while attending to other commitments, with copies available for reading in their rooms and during breaks.
Mashayamombe’s latest contribution follows his donation of 24,000 bottles of water at Zanu PF’s inaugural Presidential Fundraising Dinner, which raised US$9.5 million towards the conference and related party activities.
His support for the ruling party stretches back to the Robert Mugabe era, when he helped finance party functions and activities, according to information on his contributions.
Before the November 2017 military intervention, code-named Operation Restore Legacy, Mashayamombe also sponsored the last war veterans’ interface organised by Christopher Mutsvangwa, Victor Matemadanda, Phillip Chabata and Cornelius Muoni.
His backing of the party has been linked to his background as the child of war veterans, a connection that has informed his support for Zanu PF and its activities.
The 23rd National People’s Conference, being held at Chinhoyi University of Technology, is running under the theme “From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Empowerment Towards Vision 2030.”
Delegates are expected to review the implementation of previous resolutions and map the party’s priorities for the coming year.
