IDT director Tawanda Majoni summoned by police

By Staff Reporter

Harare – The Information for Development Trust (IDT) director, Tawanda Majoni, has been summoned by the police once again for undisclosed charges.

His legal counsel, Godwin Giya, confirmed the summons by the CID Law and Order department but stated that the specific charges remain unclear.

“I represent him but we are yet to establish the exact charges.

I will revert back to you soon,” said advocate Giya.

While the police have indicated that the summons are related to articles he has published, it’s unclear which specific pieces have drawn their attention.

Majoni’s recent articles in The Standard have focused on the coup, potentially making them a subject of interest.

This marks the second time Majoni has been called in for questioning.

In a previous encounter with the Police Internal Security and Intelligence (PiSI) unit last December, he faced intense scrutiny for his role at IDT—a nonprofit media watchdog known for its investigations into corruption, human rights abuses, and governance failures.

Majoni was scheduled to present himself to the police later today accompanied by his lawyer.
As director of IDT, Majoni spearheads investigative projects that have often ruffled feathers within the public and private sectors.

His organization’s work, in collaboration with other media organizations, relentlessly exposes graft, foreign accountability failures, and socio-economic violations.

With law enforcement hot on his trail again, this developing story raises serious questions about press freedom and the lengths to which journalists must go to hold power accountable in Zimbabwe.
