Harare – Celebrated gospel musician Mambo Dhuterere has reportedly left his marital home, abandoning his wife and four children amid explosive allegations that businessman Wicknell Chivayo became an unwitting factor in their crumbling marriage.
Sources reveal the couple have been living separately for months, with Mai Dhuterere now single-handedly caring for their children while expecting another.
The situation has reportedly taken a toll on her health.
According to insiders, the final straw came when Dhuterere allegedly blamed his wife for his failure to receive a car from controversial businessman Chivayo.
“He appears to be a nice man in public, but he has been subjecting his wife to ridicule, sometimes blaming her for his bad luck,” a source said.
“At one point, Dhuterere accused her of bad luck after he failed to get a car from Sir Wicknell Chivayo.”
The marital discord reportedly stems from deeper issues, including Dhuterere’s alleged resentment over his wife’s child from a previous relationship.
“They settled together when she had a child from a previous marriage, and they agreed to adopt the other child. He has completely changed and started moving around with friends, claiming to be running errands,” the source added.
Mai Dhuterere confirmed the separation in an emotional statement: “I have been keeping this to myself because of my condition. I don’t want to be depressed and end up losing our unborn child.”
She revealed the pain of maintaining appearances while suffering privately: “There are a few people who know about this issue because I have been trying hard to conceal the matter. I don’t usually share our problems, but I have come to a point where I feel I have had enough.”
The crisis comes months after Mai Dhuterere faced fraud charges in December 2024, which sources say exacerbated tensions.
Despite the turmoil, she maintains hope for reconciliation.
“It’s true that he moved out, but I am too weak as a woman to challenge him. Our kids desperately need him, and I am praying he will come back to his senses.”
Public questions linger about Chivayo’s alleged role in the dispute and how Zimbabwe’s beloved “Hamen hlebanna” hitmaker will address the growing scandal.
With a pregnant wife battling stress and four children caught in the crossfire, this private drama has become very public heartbreak.
