EcoSure resolves dispute with grieving family after coffin dumping incident

Rusape – EcoSure, a leading funeral service provider underwritten by Econet Life, has resolved a dispute with a bereaved family who had left a coffin at one of its branches after a denied funeral claim.


The incident, which occurred on November 2, 2024, at the EcoSure Rusape outlet, sparked widespread public outrage and scrutiny of the company’s policies and procedures.


The family had sought to claim funeral benefits but were denied due to a missed premium payment of US$4 in the previous month.


In response to the incident, EcoSure issued a public apology and acknowledged the administrative delays that led to the dispute.


The company stated, “EcoSure expresses its sincere condolences to a bereaved family that experienced administrative delays at our Rusape outlet on Saturday, November 2, 2024.”
“The matter was amicably resolved.

Funeral cover is a widely popular insurance product in Zimbabwe, and EcoSure is one of the major players in this market.


In light of the recent controversy, the company has committed to reviewing and refining its premium payment guidelines to prevent similar incidents in the future.


“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to the family and have reached out to them to express the same.


“We are now reviewing the incident with a view to address any gaps in the premium payments and claims process,” added the company.
