HARARE — City Parking has expanded its self-service parking system to more streets in Harare’s central business district as it continues rolling out AI-powered parking management.
In a statement, the company said motorists parking along Third Street between Jason Moyo Avenue and Nelson Mandela Avenue, as well as the block linking Simon Muzenda Street and Third Street along George Silundika Avenue, will use fully self-service parking facilities from this month.
The designated parking bays will no longer be manned by parking marshals, with motorists expected to make payments using digital platforms.
“Drivers are advised to pay for parking using available self-service payment platforms,” reads the statement.
Payments can be made by scanning QR codes displayed on street signs, dialling *192#, using the City’s WhatsApp chatbot or through the Park Assist mobile app.
City Parking said the expansion is part of its digital transformation programme.
“As part of City Parking’s modernisation and digital transformation strategy, select parking areas will now operate on a self-service basis.
“We appreciate your cooperation as we continue improving your parking experience,” reads the statement.
City Parking said the changes are intended to improve efficiency through the use of artificial intelligence and automation.
This latest rollout follows the introduction of self-service parking on sections of Third Street between Jason Moyo Avenue and Robert Mugabe Road, and Park Street between Jason Moyo Avenue and Samora Machel Avenue.
City Parking introduced the system after motorists raised complaints over payment delays and disputes with parking marshals.
The company says more streets in Harare’s CBD will be added to the self-service parking programme as the rollout continues.
