The ruling party, Zanu PF has said that anyone, including businessmen such as business mogul Kudakwashe Tagwirei, is welcome to join the party, regardless of their profession or background.
Zanu PF spokesperson, Christopher Mutsvangwa, made this statement during a press conference at the party headquarters on Tuesday.
A journalist had asked whether the revolutionary party was reviewing the incorporation of Dr Tagwirei into the Politburo.
In response, Mutsvangwa said anyone is welcome to join Zanu PF regardless of their profession or background.
“Anyone is free to join Zanu PF whether you’re a businessman, a farmer, a fisherman, or whatever,” he said.
“The more businesspeople we can have in the party, the more it means they are acknowledging the palpable prosperity that the President is bringing to the country.”
With government touting its trajectory of economic growth and development Zanu PF sees the involvement of the business community as crucial in achieving its goals.
Mutsvangwa concluded by saying that the party would continue to welcome businessmen and women with open arms, applauding their decision to join the party.
“So, if businessmen in large numbers begin to join the party, we applaud,” Mutsvangwa said.
Tagwirei, who has played a pivotal role in the country’s economic development and its quest to achieve government’s touted Vision 2030 trajectory, was recently nominated by the Zanu PF Masvingo Provincial Executive and endorsed by the party’s Harare Provincial Coordinating Committee.
Tagwirei has also been appointed Chairperson of the Land Tenure Committee by President Mnangagwa.
His role involves overseeing the implementation of a new land tenure system, which aims to provide bankable title deeds to farmers, enabling them to access loans and formalize investments on their land.
This is in line with the Second Republic’s economic trajectory of achieving an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
