Bomb attack hits Zanu PF Harare provincial chairperson Masimirembwa’s office

Harare – A violent attack occurred early Sunday morning targeting the business premises of Goodwills Masimirembwa, the Zanu PF Harare provincial chairperson.

The incident took place at the Zimbabwe Institute of Legal Studies, a facility located along Fife Avenue near the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) offices.

Unidentified assailants, traveling in multiple vehicles, launched a petrol bomb attack on the premises.

A security guard on duty was severely injured during the assault and was immediately taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical treatment.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and police have initiated a thorough investigation.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident and stated that police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators.

“We are conducting investigations over the matter and we will issue a statement in due course,” he said.

In an interview with state media, Masimirembwa described the attack, stating that assailants, armed with petrol, attacked the security guard and set him on fire.

“I was phoned by our administrator of this college, which I own and told that around 4 am the place was petrol bombed,” he said.

“The people who came here were about eight bouncers in two Fortuner vehicles and a Honda Fit. They were carrying petrol with them in a container.

“They attacked our guard, made him lie (down) beat him up, poured petrol on him and burnt him,” added Masimirembwa.

The guard is currently in critical condition at Parirenyatwa Hospital with severe burns.

Masimirembwa emphasized that the attack was not a robbery or theft but likely had a different motive.

“Clearly, these people did not come to rob or steal anything.

“It is something else.

“It was one office mainly where the petrol bomb landed,” he said.

Although a petrol bomb was hurled at the premises, only minor fires broke out, causing limited damage.
