PUP leader Chamuka renews push for inclusive government

GWERU — People’s Unity Party (PUP), leader Hebert Chamuka has renewed his call for the formation of an Inclusive Government Agenda (IGA), urging Zimbabweans to rally behind a broad-based administration anchored on national unity rather than electoral contests.

Addressing supporters recently in Gweru, Chamuka said the country must reconsider its political trajectory ahead of the 2030 development target.

“Elections have failed to give us solutions to our problems.

“We urge everyone in Gweru and the rest of Zimbabwe to unite for 2030 Vision and rally behind an inclusive government agenda,” he said.

Chamuka said he was engaging other opposition leaders in consultations aimed at building consensus around the proposal.

He argued that Zimbabwe’s development aspirations would be difficult to achieve without leaders from across the political divide working together under a shared framework.

“Vision 2030 must not be a Zanu PF vision only.

“It must include all leaders in the country, even those in the opposition,” he stated.

His remarks echo previous calls for a Government of National Unity, a model Zimbabwe adopted between 2009 and 2013 following a disputed election, which brought rival political parties into a power-sharing arrangement.

The Government, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has maintained that it remains committed to achieving Vision 2030.

Vision 2030 is a government blueprint aimed at transforming Zimbabwe into an upper middle-income economy.

Senior officials have previously indicated that constitutional processes would guide any proposed amendments linked to long-term economic and political stability.

Chamuka’s renewed push sets the stage for fresh debate over the country’s governance model as Zimbabwe moves closer to its 2030 development milestone.
