NORTON – Norton lawmaker Richard Tsvangirai, has expressed deep sorrow and alarm following the discovery of two mutilated bodies in his constituency this week, describing the events as “two very dark days” for the community.

“I share in the deep sorrow and shock these events have caused.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the families who have lost their loved ones under such painful circumstances,” Tsvangirai said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Please know that your grief is our grief, and you are not alone during this time,” added Tsvangirai.

The Norton MP said he had visited the bereaved families to offer solidarity and pledged continued support as investigations progress.

He revealed that he had engaged law enforcement authorities, who have since launched inquiries into the deaths.

“Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done.

“We will not rest until answers are found and those responsible are held accountable,” Tsvangirai added.

Tsvangirai also urged police to step up patrols in Katanga to reassure residents, while encouraging the public to remain calm and vigilant.

“To the people of Norton, I urge you to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movements during late hours.

“While fear and uncertainty weigh heavily on us, let us not lose our sense of community. Let us watch over one another, support the grieving, and remain calm as investigations unfold,” he said.

The grim discovery of two bodies in the Katanga area, sparking fears of possible ritual killings and speculation about a serial killer on the loose.

On August 25, the body of 40-year-old Patrice Chipaumire was found along a footpath near Knowe-Katanga Road.

Police confirmed he had sustained a deep cut to the throat, flesh was removed from his right cheek, and his left arm and genitals were mutilated.

The following morning, the body of Jack Gedion was discovered nearby in a similar state.

Both victims were local residents.

The incidents have left the community rattled, with residents calling for improved security measures.

Some have demanded better street lighting in Katanga, arguing that poor visibility at night increases the risks of violent crimes.

While police investigations are underway, fear and speculation continue to swirl in the community, underscoring the urgency of both immediate security interventions and long-term safety planning for Norton residents.
