Geza’s warning of gunfire exchange fails to trigger shutdown against Mnangagwa

Harare – A sensational warning from militant war veteran and former Zanu-PF Central Committee member Blessed “Bombshell” Geza, which highlighted the potential for gunfire and collateral damage, urging Zimbabweans to observe an indefinite shutdown, was largely ignored as citizens continued with their daily activities.

Tensions are rising in the country, driven by a faction of war veterans led by Geza, who is calling for the removal of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Geza has repeatedly accused Mnangagwa of rampant state corruption, patronage, and attempts to extend his presidency beyond its current term—issues he cites as key reasons behind their demand for his removal.

The war veteran-cum-fugitive Geza, currently in hiding, issued a grave warning on Tuesday evening, urging citizens to remain indoors.

He indicated that security forces sympathetic to his cause might clash with those protecting individuals he refers to as “Zvigananda,” a term he uses to describe individuals he believes to be corrupt.

In a video address, Geza explained the severity of the situation, stating, “When we declare a shutdown, it means everyone must stay at home. Because the person you’re listening to is the one we want to remove.”

Geza went on to stress that Mnangagwa’s removal would lead to significant improvements for the citizens of Zimbabwe.

“When he is gone, your welfare will improve. Your salaries will improve,” he asserted.

He further elaborated on the potential dangers, warning that during confrontations, civilians could be caught in the crossfire.

“Some of them have armed bodyguards and mercenaries,” he said, referring to individuals he holds responsible for the current political climate.

“Civilians could become collateral damage in any exchange of gunfire,” he cautioned, urging the public to remain indoors for their safety until the objective of removing Mnangagwa is realized.

Despite the tensions, the majority of Zimbabweans chose to ignore the call for a shutdown, opting instead to go about their daily routines.

The situation remains tense as Geza’s faction intensifies its efforts to challenge the incumbent with both sides preparing for a possible escalation in the coming days.
