14-year-old Ruwa girl raped after stepmother takes her to bar

By Staff Reporter

Harare — A 14-year-old Ruwa girl was raped by a man she met at a bar, where her stepmother had taken her, police confirmed.

The Form 2 student was drinking with her stepmother when she encountered Clive Sibanda, 21.

Sibanda allegedly proposed love to the minor, a proposal her stepmother reportedly encouraged her to accept.

“Police arrested a Ruwa man for raping a minor child aged 14,” said Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza.

“The complainant has since been taken to hospital for medical examinations,” Chakanza.

The trio drank until around 9 p.m. before Sibanda drove them home.

Enraged, the girl’s father demanded they return to where they had been.

Her stepmother then called Sibanda, who took them back to the bar.

The Teenager and stepmother spent the night in a room there.

Sibanda allegedly raped the girl without protection while her stepmother was present.

Next morning, the stepmother lied to her husband, claiming they had slept at a friend’s house.

Later, the girl confided in her aunt, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.

Case has sparked calls for guardians to protect children from harm. Investigations continue.
