Harare – The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Stanford Chigumira, the Director for Health Services in Zanu PF, on allegations of fraud.
In a weekend statement ZACC said Chigumira was arrested for soliciting a US$500 bribe from Mirriam Mverechena.
The payment was allegedly meant to secure a place for Mverechena’s son in the Primary Care Nurse Training Course for the September 2024 intake.
“Dr. Chigumira solicited and received $500 from Mirriam Mverechena to help her son secure admission into the nurse training program,” ZACC stated.
However, despite the payment, Mverechena’s son was not admitted into the program.
Disappointed by the outcome, Mverechena reported the matter to the Ministry of Health and Child Care and ZACC, prompting an investigation that led to Dr. Chigumira’s arrest.
ZACC confirmed that Chigumira is scheduled to appear before the Harare Magistrate Court on Saturday, 14 December 2024.
