HARARE — NetOne has launched a Mega National Clean-Up campaign across six provinces, reinforcing its role in Zimbabwe’s monthly sanitation programme and its commitment to environmental stewardship and community wellbeing.
The telecommunications firm has decentralised the First Friday National Clean-Up Programme through this ongoing initiative to promote environmental preservation.
NetOne’s campaign was rolled out with support from the Offices of the President and Cabinet in Bulawayo, Harare, Midlands, Manicaland, and Mashonaland East provinces.
The initiative aligns with a national call by President Emmerson Mnangagwa for citizens and institutions to dedicate the first Friday of every month to cleaning their surroundings under the National Clean-Up Day programme.
Thousands of participants, including NetOne employees, accredited airtime vendors, local authority officials, faith-based organisations, students, and grassroots environmental volunteers, joined the clean-up activities in various urban centres.

The NetOne Mega National Clean-Up Programme is also designed to support the objectives of National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), with a focus on environmental sustainability, youth empowerment, stakeholder collaboration, and the promotion of responsible citizenship.
Through the intensified campaign, NetOne aims to deepen its engagement with communities in tackling social challenges, including drug and substance abuse.
In Harare, teams cleared litter and improved public spaces around NetOne’s headquarters at Kopje Plaza, extending towards Rowan Martin and areas surrounding the ruling party’s offices.
Charles Tawengwa, Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province and Devolution, commended NetOne for supporting government efforts to promote environmental responsibility.
“This is really corporate social responsibility in partnership with the NetOne Mega Clean-Up campaign,” Tawengwa said.
“They are looking at probably six provinces this month.
“As you are aware, the first Friday of every month is the National Clean-Up Day,” he added.

Tawengwa that the initiative complements Harare’s local environmental programmes.
“In the Harare Metropolitan, you may recall that we launched the ‘Own Your Space’ initiative, whereby every individual or corporation is encouraged to own their space.
“I’m glad the NetOne Mega Clean-Up campaign is being launched nationally,” he said.
NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer Raphael Mushanawani, represented at the event by Nyasha Nyambuya, said the campaign demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community development.
“This initiative is in support of the National Clean-Up Day, as declared by His Excellency Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, where corporates and individuals are supposed to participate in cleaning up cities and towns every first Friday of the month,” Nyambuya said.
“For NetOne, we have incorporated this into our strategy.
“We are not waiting for the first Friday of the month, if your doorstep is dirty on a Thursday, we take it upon ourselves to ensure the environment is clean,” she added.

Nyambuya noted that the campaign also supports Zimbabwe’s development agenda and aligns with the objectives of NDS2, while contributing to the country’s long-term Vision 2030 goals.
The National Clean-Up Day programme has expanded into a nationwide effort, with government departments, private companies, and communities encouraged to take ongoing responsibility for maintaining clean and healthy environments.
