Massive inverter installation begins Under Presidential Rooftop Solar Scheme

By Staff Reporter

Harare – The installation of inverters has commenced in Glen View as part of the Presidential Rooftop Solar Scheme, marking a significant milestone in Zimbabwe’s push for alternative energy solutions.

With solar panels already in place, households are now being equipped with inverters, allowing them to store and utilize the generated power more efficiently.

Dr Paul Tungwarara, chairperson of Prevail Group International (PGI), the company spearheading the project through its subsidiary, Zimbabwe Solar Energy Company (ZISEC), confirmed the latest developments.

“Now that the solar panels have been successfully installed, we have moved on to the critical phase of installing inverters.

“This will enable residents to access power even when sunlight is unavailable, ensuring a steady electricity supply,” he said.

The initiative, which began in Glen View 3, aims to enhance power reliability for hundreds of households.

Previously, while the solar panels were feeding energy into the national grid, residents could not directly utilize the power in their homes without inverters.

With this new phase, homes will have a more functional and independent energy system.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Manyara Dhlakama, expressed gratitude for the scheme’s progress.

“The installation of inverters is a game changer. Now, even at night or on cloudy days, we can still use the energy generated by the solar panels. It’s a relief to have consistent power,” she said.

The Presidential Rooftop Solar Scheme, initially launched to alleviate load shedding in residential areas, is now taking a more comprehensive approach by ensuring that communities not only contribute to the national grid but also benefit from direct energy access.

According to officials, the inverter installations are expected to be completed within the coming weeks, with more households set to be connected as the rollout continues.

The government, in collaboration with PGI and ZESA, aims to replicate this model in other suburbs to further stabilize power supply across the country.

With energy security remaining a national priority, the continued implementation of the Presidential Solar Scheme is proving to be a major step towards self-sufficiency and sustainability in Zimbabwe’s power sector.
