HARARE – Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango has been granted bail by the High Court after spending nearly two months in remand prison.

Chisango was arrested in July on charges of criminal abuse of duty for allegedly awarding a US$9,2 million tender to Juluka Enndo Joint Venture without following proper procedures.

Juluka Enndo Joint Venture, is a company owned by businessmen Moses Mpofu, and was fronted by his business partner Mike Chimombe, to be awarded the Harare city US$9,2 million street light tender.

Mpofu and Chimombe are currently holed up in remand prison over charges of a US$88 million botched goat supply tender by government and the US$9,2 Harare street lighting scandal.

Chisango was ordered to deposit $1,000 with the clerk of court, to continue residing at his given address and not to interfere with state witnesses.

He was also ordered to report to the police once a week and to surrender his passport.

Chisango faces criminal abuse of duty charges.

In July, Chisango was arrested for awarding Juluka Enndo Joint Venture a US$9,2 million tender connivance with four other Harare city officials without following the due process.

Allegations are that Chisango disregarded an earlier decision to disqualify Juluka Enndo Joint Venture for having failed to meet the bid requirements.
