BEITBRIDGE – Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, the son of the late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, has had a warrant of arrest issued against him after failing to appear in a Beitbridge court on Monday.

Mugabe is facing two separate charges of disorderly conduct and possession of prohibited weapons.

The incident occurred on August 31, this year at the Bubi Security Roadblock in Beitbridge.

According to the state, Mugabe’s vehicle which was being driven by a South African national was stopped at Bubi security roadblock in Beitbridge.

The driver was asked to produce his passport and vehicle registration documents.

Before the driver could comply, Mugabe handed his passport to the police officer.

When the officer requested that the vehicle be parked further off the road, Mugabe is said to have become agitated and shouted at the officer.

“What are you doing, you are delaying me for the fourth time.

“I am rushing to a wedding in Harare, check my passport, don’t you know who I am,” he allegedly said.

During the ensuing altercation, a small brown knife reportedly fell from Mugabe’s black hooded fleece jacket.

Police recovered the knife leading to his arrest.
The warrant of arrest comes after Mugabe failed to appear in court on Monday as scheduled.
