Harare – The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced a nationwide operation targeting retailers selling contaminated fuel.
In a statement released on Monday, ZERA announced an intensified effort to address this issue, revealing that several fuel retailers have already faced penalties for selling substandard fuel.
The regulatory body aims to ensure compliance and protect consumers from the dangers of contaminated fuel.
“ZERA has intensified fuel quality monitoring and testing at fuel retail sites countrywide in terms of the Petroleum Act [Chapter 13:22] and Petroleum (Fuel Quality) Regulations, 2013 to curb fuel quality violations.
“Selling fuel which does not meet the quality specifications is an offence,” said ZERA.
ZERA vowed to continue sanctioning fuel suppliers and retailers nationwide who breach energy regulations listing several fuel retailers sanctioned for fuel offenses from June 30, 2024.
Fuel retailers sanctioned for fuel quality offenses, include Elima Fuels VID Eastlea in Harare, Knars Petroleum in Marondera, Rubel Energy Mufakose in Harare, AA Fuels Southerton in Harare, Mt Meru Mbare in Harare, Busuman Motors in Bulawayo, DA Motors in Mutare, and Flo Petroleum in Masvingo.
ZERA announced it would regularly publish names of fuel retail sites being convicted of selling contaminated water on its official website.
Motorists experiencing vehicle performance problems after fueling or refueling at any filling station were also urged to quickly contact ZERA.
