HARARE — A Harare woman has been arrested for allegedly running an illegal operation that repackaged sugar into bags bearing fake Tongaat Hulett labels, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) said.
Spiwe Mutandwa was arrested after ZACC officers raided a house in Southlea Park on Saturday evening.
During the raid, investigators discovered a truck carrying more than 3,600kg of sugar packed in 2kg bags bearing counterfeit Tongaat Hulett labels.
A scale and other packaging equipment were also found at the premises.
The truck, sugar consignment and packaging equipment were seized and will be used as exhibits in the case.
Mutandwa faces fraud charges and is accused of violating Section 84(1)(b) of the Trade Marks Act [Chapter 26:04], which prohibits the forgery of registered trademarks.
She is expected to appear at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 31, 2026.
ZACC warned people against repackaging consumable products in fake-branded packaging and selling them as genuine products.
The commission also urged consumers to buy from registered retailers and check packaging for signs of tampering, spelling errors and properly sealed bags.
