‘Zanu PF will rule until donkeys grow horns’ — Mnangagwa revives Muzenda’s famous remark at consultative assembly

HARARE — President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reiterated his confidence in Zanu PF’s longevity, invoking one of the party’s most enduring political sayings during his address to the 27th Ordinary Session of the National Consultative Assembly (NCA) held in Harare on Friday.

Addressing party members, Mnangagwa said Zanu PF was modernising while remaining committed to its long-term political vision.

“Zanu PF is modernising; we are here to stay. As our late national hero and Vice President ‘Cde Mzee’ Simon Vengesayi Muzenda once said, ‘Zanu PF ichatonga kusvikira madongi amera nyanga’. This generation will do its part to realise this dream,” Mnangagwa said.

The phrase, first popularised by the late Vice President Simon Muzenda, literally translates to “Zanu PF will rule until donkeys grow horns,” and has long been used within the party to express confidence in its political future.

Mnangagwa made the remarks while outlining measures the party says it is taking to strengthen its organisational structures and ideological programmes.

He said capacity-building seminars had been conducted for members of the Politburo, Central Committee and lower party structures to improve leadership performance and ideological consciousness.

Mnangagwa also said Standing Committees of the Central Committee had become fully operational, describing the development as an important milestone in strengthening internal party processes.

During the address, he called on party members to embrace technology, improve organisational efficiency and continue preparations for the party’s 23rd National People’s Conference to be hosted in Mashonaland West Province.

The President further urged members to continue promoting unity, discipline and peace while remaining focused on implementing programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and accelerating national development.

The NCA is one of Zanu PF’s constitutional organs established under Article 11 of the party constitution and serves as an advisory body to the party leadership.
