Trial set  for Destiny Achiever College owned accused of defrauding students over US$4K

Harare– The Harare Magistrates Court has scheduled February 13 for the trial of Cynthia Gambiza, the proprietor of Destiny Achiever College, who faces seven charges of defrauding Ordinary Level students by misappropriating Cambridge examination fees exceeding US$4000.

The complainant, Rachel Manhenga, alleges that Gambiza enrolled her daughter at Destiny Achiever College, located in Glenforest, Domboshava, in January 2021, under the false claim that the school was a registered Cambridge examination centre for the UK.

Manhenga had learned of the school’s purported registration through the school’s social media and billboards.

Her daughter attended the school from Form 1 until 2024, when, on May 9, Manhenga paid US$700 for the October-November Cambridge exams.

However, on September 26, 2024 Gambiza informed Manhenga via WhatsApp that her daughter was not registered for the exams, citing the lack of a national identity document.

It is alleged that Gambiza used a similar scheme to deceive other students. Anesu Chirenje of the National Prosecuting Authority is handling the case.
