Bulawayo – A 18-year-old teenager from Mbembesi is facing murder charges after fatally stabbing his father during a domestic dispute.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed on Monday that they had opened an investigation into the shocking incident.
“ZRP confirms the arrest of Abel Ncube, 18, in connection with a case of murder which occurred at a homestead in Niniva Village, Mbembesi on 19 October 2024 in which his father, Dumezweni Ncube, 49, died.
“The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim once on the left side of the chest with a spear after a domestic dispute.
“The victim bled profusely and passed on. The body of the victim was taken to United Bulawayo Group of Hospitals for post-mortem,” said Nyathi.
While police did not provide additional details about the altercation, cases of children killing their own biological parents have become increasingly concerning in Zimbabwe.
In May 2024, a 62-year-old man was beaten to death by his son in Mukumbura after being scolded for his laziness.
The son, aged 39, assaulted his father with a wooden log, resulting in his immediate death.
Additionally, last year, a 20-year-old man from Mvurwi allegedly stoned his 61-year-old father to death and then burned his body.
The incident was believed to be linked to mental health issues.
