HARARE – Senior executives at platinum producer Zimplats Holdings are facing allegations of corporate malpractice, with claims of irregular contracts and abuse of office.
Ceo Alex Mhembere is accused of awarding a human resources consultancy contract to Glen Rise Investments, a company in which he allegedly has financial interests.
The contract was reportedly used to facilitate questionable labour broking.
Mhembere is also alleged to have channelled an egg supply contract to Zimplats through his personal business, Farmers Jay.
“Mhembere operates Zimplats as if it were his personal business, awarding lucrative deals to associates and romantic partners while ordinary employees struggle,” a company insider alleged.
Managing director Stanley Segula is accused of awarding a pit sand supply contract to Dostaro Investments—linked to his associate Mrs Makororo—without following procurement procedures. Insiders say the company lacked capacity for the work.
“Segula has consolidated power over the years, directing contracts to friends and allies,” another source claimed.
The company’s procurement committee was allegedly bypassed, raising corporate governance concerns.
Sources say the allegations are part of a wider pattern of misconduct, including claims of sexual harassment.
“One female employee even lodged a formal harassment complaint,” a source said.
Both Mhembere and Segula could not be reached for comment.
Stakeholders are calling for an independent investigation into Zimplats’ management practices.
