Selmor Mtukudzi pays tribute to devoted fans for bolstering Tuku Festival inclusion

Harare – Renowned Afro Jazz sensation Selmor Mtukudzi has expressed her sincere gratitude to her fans and supporters who voiced their concerns about her exclusion from the two-day International Oliver Mtukudzi Festival.

Selmor, was initially omitted from the Festival which is scheduled for September 21- 22, which features popular artists such as Jah Prayzah, Djembe Monks, Feli Nandi, Gemma Griffiths, Killer T, Hope Masike, and Agga Nyabinde, among others.

When reached for comment prior to her addition to the Festival, Selmor expressed her heartbreak and disappointment.

“All I have to say at the moment is that I’m disappointed and heartbroken,” she said.

Her omission from the Festival sparked a public outcry, both online and offline, with fans and supporters calling for a boycott of the festival.

Under mounting pressure from the criticism, the organizers later included Selmor in the lineup.

In a heartfelt social media message, Selmor, acknowledged the overwhelming support she received from her fans, which led to her inclusion in the festival lineup.

“To all who spoke up for me, you have been amazing.

“I’m humbled by the love you have for my father which has extended over to me,” wrote Selmor.

The Nguva Yangu hitmaker, Selmor, promised to honor her father’s legacy through her performance at the festival.

“I will not take it for granted. For that reason and in honor of my father’s legacy, I will be coming to Pakare Paya (Festival).

“Let’s do this right. I love you all,” she added.

Her inclusion in the festival has been met with widespread celebration among fans, who had initially expressed disappointment over her exclusion.

Many view her participation as a significant step in honoring the legacy of her late father, Oliver Mtukudzi, a legendary and iconic musician in Zimbabwe.
